Who should be included in the creation of a curriculum guide and what should its purpose be?

  1. A curriculum guide should include an introduction, instructional goals, instructional objectives, learning activities, evaluation techniques and resources to be used. It's purpose should be a "guide" for teachers. It should be a teaching aid with helpful suggestions for a course of study.

  2. The purpose of a curriculum guide is to act as the framework in which educators develop their instructional tasks. It can help them develop units that they teach. I think that curriculum specialist, principals, and teachers should all be included in the process of developing a curriculum guide. The guide should be reviewed by other specialists in the school district.

  3. Teachers, specialists, and administrators should be included in developing a curriculum guide. Its purpose should be exactly what it is called, a guide, to lead planning, instruction, and assessment. The guide is to be used so that everyone is "on the same page".

  4. Any educator who would be in a classroom at anytime assisting students should be involved in the curriculum planning process. This group should include teachers, specialists, aides, and administrators. The purpose of a curriculum guide should be an easy to read document that allows anyone who looks at it to understand what is being taught in any classroom. It is a guide for educators so that all staff members can be in "sync" when teaching students.

  5. The process of developing a curriculum guide should include teacher input.

As an educator I feel that you should include available resources in your curriculum guide. We spend so much time searching for things.

    A currriculum guide should include:
    goals
    objectives
    learning activities
    assessment

  6. A curriculum guide should be created by teachers, curriculum coordinators and administrators. The guide should specify objectives that the students are required to master. The curriculum guide should suggest materials and activities that may assist in the student learning process. The guide needs to contain pretests and posttests for each unit, to prepare students for standardized tests.

  7. I believe a curriculum guide should be created by teachers first and formost becuase they will be the ones using it, but there also needs to be collaboration with administrators, curriculum specialists, and also stakeholders within the community. The purpose of the curriculum guide is to give guidance to teachers based on standards set by higher authority.

Grade level representatives, teachers from the grade above and below the grade for which the guide is being created and curriculum planners should create the curriculum guide.
It's purpose is to give teachers the guidelines for instruction in a specific area of their grade level.

  9. Administrators, teachers, curriculum specialists, and special education teachers should all be included in the development of curriculum guides. Curriculum guides should give readers (teachers, administrators, ect..) incite into what is taking place in the classroom as well as serve as a guide for teachers to stay on task.

  10. In the development of a curriculum guide teachers, curriculum specialist, and administrators should be included. The purpose of a curriculum guide is to provide curriculum direction for the instructor.

  11. A curriculum should be written or reviewed by teachers. The guide should include instructional goals/objectives, activities/resources for implementation, and evaluation.

  12. Curriculum guides ideally would be a collaborative effort between teachers experts in the field. This would allow for the both the instruction component and the subject component to be given the appropriate weight. It is important that teachers are involved so that teachers are committed to it and the guide is a true resource. The main purpose of a curriculum guide should be to act as a resource. This is especially important for new teachers or teachers who recently changed courses.

  13. Curriculum guide is a teaching aid with helpful suggestions rather than a complete course of study in itself. The people involved in this should be any one involved in that course that is at a teaching level. The teacher, assistants, or specialist of the subject.

  14. A Curriculum guide should be created by teachers, specialists (special ed. teachers, guidance counselor, ELL teachers, exploratory teachers, etc.) and adminstrators to provide a reasonable guide to the curriculum. This way everyone will feel included and everyone will be in alignment.

  15. A curriculum guide should be just that: a guide. Suggestions for materials, activities, and potential testin items should be included; however, it should be noted that these things are suggestions ONLY. Teachers should form curriculum guides. (Our county has just finished working on a new writing curriculum, and I feel it will be successful because teachers had input in it; therefore, ownership of the document is felt, and faculty members will be more receptive to changes occurring because of the new guide.

  16. Aside from goals, instructional objectives, specific activities and assessment strategies that many others have mentioned, I think another important component to be included with curriculum guides could be suggested accommodations for students with different needs, but not necessarily receiving special ed services.

  17. And the purpose would be to offer suggestions to teachers as to how the guide can be modified to ensure student success at all levels.

  18. It should be created by teachers, specialists, assistants, and administrators. It's purpose is to guide teachers in what goals and objectives should be mastered by the students throughout the year. It might include what materials could be used, activities, pre & post tests and possibly sample problems and lessons that will be helpful to the teacher.

  19. I think everyone who is involved in teaching the curriculum should be involved in planning the curriculum (teachers, specialists, administrators, etc.), but I think we also have to be careful of "too many cooks in the kitchen." It's nice for everyone to be able to offer feedback and suggestions, but it's nearly impossible to please everyone.

  20. A curriculum guide should be created by teachers, curriculum specialists, administrators, and other stakeholders. However, the main purpose is to use this just as the name states, a "guide".

  21. I believe that teachers, specialists, parents, and administrators should be involved in the creation of the curriculum guides. These guides should be used as a "guide" for teachers for instructional goals, objectives, techniques, and resources.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I feel like all levels should be included. Teachers, central office, administrators, parents, and state officials. In order to cover the areas that need to be covered we need to have as many angles as possible.

  23. I feel that the main creators of a curriculum guide should be the teachers. However, it is important to involve administrators, special education teachers, specialists, and other department members. The more people who are involved in the creation of a curriculum guide the better the guide should be. Consequently, having too many people creating the guide could cause problems and unwanted information in the curriculum guide.

  24. Teachers, and other specialists in the scholol division , like the Curriculum and Instructional Coordinator, should be included in the creation of the curriculum guide. Its purpose is to include instructional goals, instructional objectives and activities, evaluation techniques, and resources for teachers. Also, it specifically focuses on content and skills required for student achievement.

  25. I believe teachers, specialists, administrators, students and the community should be involved in the curriculum guide Everyone has a say in what our youth should be learning and I think it would be a great way to find different perspectives. We know that teachers, and specialists are the "final" says in what needs to be put in these guides, but having different opinions may help more. The curriculum guide acts as a "pacing guide" to help teachers see where (time increments) and what they should be teaching for the year/SOL's.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The guide should be developed by teachers and content specialists; a review process should tap into those who have created similar/previous guides, administrators and those teaching the subject or course who weren;t directly involved in the development process.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Instructional leaders, teachers, and curriculum specialists should be involved in the process of creating the curriculum guide. The purpose of the guide should be a "teaching aid" for teachers to use.

    ReplyDelete
  28. First and foremost, teachers should be involved in the curriculum guide planning, as well as administrators. The purpose of this guide is to literally "guide" the teacher throughout the course of study.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Teachers, administrators, specialists, PTA. We should all be involved so that we are all on the "same page". The more people involved in the process the fewer meetings we need to conduct to communicate the plan.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I believe that central office, administrators, parents, and teachers should be involved in the creation of a curriculum guide. The purpose of it being to meet all students learning needs .

    ReplyDelete
  31. A currriculum guide should be made up by curriculum specialists, administrators and teachers. It is extremely important to have teachers developing this. It should include goals, objectives, activities and assessments. Curriculum guides are somewhat used as a pacing guide for teachers so it would most definitely need those components for the teachers. It should be a nicely developed aid for teachers to use.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I beleive that there should be several inputs for the curriculum guide. I believe that a collaborative effort is more effective than allowing a single teacher to create the curriculum guide. I would include teachers, administrators, and curriculum specialists in developing the guide.

    ReplyDelete
  33. A curriculum guide should be used as a teaching aid and developed by teachers. At minimum, they should include goals, objectives, resources, suggested activities, and evaluation techniques. Space for comments and reflection should also be included as the guide itself should be a flexible, ever-changing document.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Curriculum guides should be used as teaching aids. It should be used, as the name implies, as a guide that includes instructional goals and objectives, relevant questions, learning activities, and possible evaluation techniques. They should be developed by teachers, other specialists, parents, and administrators.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I feel all curriculum guides should be developed by the teachers. They are the individuals who will be using them and have the professional background in their subject to produce them. These guides should be used as an aid and guide for them. These documents should continually be evaluated and changing frequently to meet the needs of the students.

    ReplyDelete
  36. A curriculum guide should be developed by mostly teachers, with an administrator or curriculum specialist to give input when necessary. They should be used by teachers as a guide or aid. They should be a source of help with units and lessons that teachers are able to use.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Current teachers should be the most important contributors in the creation of a curriculum guide. The guide should do just what it's name implies which is serve as a guide for teachers.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Curriculum guides should be made by a committee which has an administrator, a counselor or Spec. Ed. teacher, as well as the department. The purpose of it should be to offer lots of meaningful resouces and explanations to teachers about the timing, use, and goals of the curriculum.

    ReplyDelete
  39. A curriculum guide should be developed by administrators and department heads with access to individual teacher and student as well as community input. The purpose of the curriculum guide should be to outline instructional goals and objectives as well as provide the necessary resources for instruction and assessment.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The purpose of the curriculum guide is to provide teachers a guide to the skills, concepts, and understandings students need to learn for a subject/ grade level. This guide is used to plan the appropriate, aligned instruction. Curriculum planners, teachers, and administrators need to be involved in this process

    ReplyDelete
  41. I believe that a curriculum guide should be a group effort between a number of different people including: adminstrators, department chairs, teachers, principals, curriculum coaches, and parents. The purpose is to provide educators with a backbone from which to build their instruction.
